Overview

The combination of the Sirimon route starts from the west of Mount Kenya National Park passing through the driest side of the mountain. On this ascent, trekkers encounter giant trees, rocky terrain and the charming Mackinders Valley before descending via the Chogoria route.

On descending Chogoria spotting the characteristic lush bamboo zone and the highland forests while gazing at the magnificent Gorges Valley, waterfalls and tarns.

GEARS CHECK LIST.

Tour Plan

Arrive at Nanyuki town, your gateway to Mt Kenya. After briefing and preparation, drive to the Sirimon Gate to begin your trek. The hike starts gently through lush forests rich with exotic flora and fauna. Ascend steadily, passing giant groundsels and lobelias, and enjoy spectacular views of Mt Kenya’s jagged peaks. Camp overnight at Old Moses Camp (around 3,300m), surrounded by alpine vegetation and stunning mountain vistas.

Wake up to crisp mountain air and set off early for a rewarding trek to Shipton’s Camp (approx. 4,200m). The trail climbs through moorland and alpine zones, with panoramic views of the peaks and valleys below. Keep an eye out for wildlife like the elusive bongo antelope. At Shipton’s, take in the breathtaking scenery and prepare for the challenging days ahead with a restful night under starry skies.

Begin your summit attempt before dawn, trekking toward Point Lenana (4,985m), Mt Kenya’s highest accessible peak. Witness a stunning sunrise over the surrounding mountains — an unforgettable reward for your effort. After celebrating the summit, begin your descent via the Chogoria Route, renowned for its dramatic landscapes including waterfalls, dense forests, and deep gorges. Arrive at Chogoria Camp for your final overnight stay, soaking in the tranquil forest atmosphere.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before descending further to the Chogoria Gate, where your support vehicle will meet you. Along the way, marvel at the pristine scenery of the Gorges Valley and the famous Fourteen Falls. Drive back to Nanyuki, where you can relax, freshen up, and celebrate your accomplishment with a hearty dinner.

After breakfast, you may choose to depart or extend your adventure with a safari in nearby reserves like Samburu or Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Otherwise, transfer to the airport for your onward journey, carrying memories of an epic mountain adventure filled with nature, challenge, and spectacular views.
